Welcome to Fireflies Class

Our teachers are Miss Hall (Beaufort Class) and Ms O’Callaghan (Fireflies). Our Teaching Assistants are Mrs Fletcher (Beaufort) and Mrs North (Fireflies).

We are so lucky to have a large spacious classroom and we are developing our very own outdoor area too. Lots of our learning still takes place outdoors as we change from learning from the EYFS to the National Curriculum.

Our learning is topic based, and you can view our curriculum map for an overview of our learning for the year. We think our topics are really exciting and give us lots of opportunities to develop all our skills.

Literacy

Reading and writing poetry, familiar stories and recounts and explanations. Continuing Read, Write, Inc. phonics and reading. We will also be having a walk to the beach and a trip to the Aquarium to inspire our writing.

Maths

Reinforcing counting, ordering and comparing number to 100. Developing and securing strategies for addition and subtraction; doubles, halves, fractions, shape & time.

Science:

Animals & Plants of the Oceans. Looking at variation, food chains and life under the sea.

Religious Education

Belonging to a Jewish Community An introduction to our second religion of study at KS1. We will become familiar with some simple Jewish customs and celebrations of significance.

Physical Education

Developing basketball skills with sports coach, Mr Mellor on Tuesdays​.

Please make sure your child has a PE kit (shorts, t shirt, plimsolls) in school and that earrings are removed or covered.

Topic: In The Deep

This term we will be learning about the oceans of the world, the life within them and how we can care responsibly for them.

Looking at the oceans of the world, how our actions affect them and what we can do to care for them. Studying Grace Darling, as our significant historical study and her involvement with the development of the RNLI.

ICT

Programming and control Learning how to program a simple sequence (algorithm) into a simple robot which travels along a programmed pathway. Fixing bugs in broken pathways too.

Personal, social & emotional development

It’s good to be me! Learning to show pride in ourselves, take pride in others, and share our worries and anxieties.

Geography: Weather patterns

We will be exploring our weather and seasons focusing on change and patterns. We will also be looking at weather around the world and how this relates to our weather.

Creative development:

Art - Drawing. Learning lots of techniques to improve our drawing skills as well as the range of tools we can use to give more depth, texture and tone to our artwork.

How you can help at home

Children MUST complete homework on a weekly basis, using the homework framework - choose one piece weekly and submit by Friday. Support with daily reading and helping your child to learn their spellings which will be tested each Friday.

Remember, while your child has a set reading book change day we are happy to change books as often as required. Just let us know! Thank you very much for your continued support.

Please can your child continue to bring the following EVERY DAY:

Warm coat, jumper, book bag, water bottle. If your child wears earrings please remember only stud earring are allowed to be worn in school. And black school shoes only.
